How Much Does an AI Chatbot for an Online Store Really Cost in 2026? Prices per Dialog

As of June 2026, an AI chatbot for an online store costs anywhere from ~$0.06 to ~$1.40 per customer dialog, depending on the pricing model. Metered platforms like Intercom Fin, Gorgias and Tidio Lyro charge $0.65–0.99 per conversation or "resolution", while a subscription with a bring-your-own AI key (BYO key) drops the cost to the raw price of tokens. The only honest unit for comparing vendors is price per dialog — and one real sales dialog averages ~8 AI messages, not one.

Why not compare monthly prices? Because every vendor meters something different: resolutions, individual AI replies, or "active contacts". The table below converts everything to one metric, followed by the actual math for a store doing 500 dialogs a month and one doing 2,500.

Price per dialog: the comparison table (as of June 2026)

PlatformPricing modelPrice per dialog
Intercom Fin$0.99 per resolution, 50/mo minimum$0.99
Gorgias AI Agent$1.00 per resolved conversation ($0.90 on annual)$0.90–1.00
Tidio Lyroadd-on bundles from $32.50 per 50 conversationsfrom ~$0.65
MyChatBot (Ukrainian platform)metered AI replies: $49/mo = 600 replies ≈ 75 dialogs~$0.65
Custom agency botfrom ~$200 setup + maintenanceone-off build, scripted flows
Mercon Growth$139/mo ≈ 2,500 dialogs~$0.06
Mercon BYO key$79/mo + tokens paid directly to OpenAI/Geminitoken cost only, no markup

The typical market band as of June 2026 is $0.5–1.4 per AI dialog. ManyChat is deliberately missing from this table: it bills per "active contact", not per dialog — more on that below.

Why dialogs, not messages, are the honest unit

A real sales conversation is never one question and one answer. The customer asks about sizing, requests photos, pushes back on price, picks a delivery option, confirms the order. Across our own traffic at Mercon, that averages ~8 AI messages per dialog. So a plan advertising "600 AI replies" isn't 600 customer conversations — it's roughly 75.

Concrete example: MyChatBot's Standard plan at $49/mo includes 600 AI replies. 600 ÷ 8 ≈ 75 dialogs, which works out to ~$0.65 per dialog — an honest number you won't find on the pricing page. Overages run ~$40 per 1,000 replies. To be fair: MyChatBot is the closest competitor to us in Ukraine, it lists KeyCRM among its integrations, and on its MultiPro plan ($199 = 3,000 replies) the per-dialog cost drops to ~$0.53. Run the numbers for your own volume.

The three pricing models — and the catch in each

1. Metered: pay per resolution or per reply

Intercom Fin charges $0.99 per resolution with a 50-per-month minimum. Gorgias charges $1.00 per resolved conversation, or $0.90 on an annual contract. Tidio Lyro sells bundles from $32.50 per 50 conversations. The upside: you only pay for what's used, and Fin and Gorgias only bill when the AI actually closed the question on its own — a fair deal for classic support teams. The downside: it's a tax on success. The more customers write and buy, the bigger the invoice — and at volume it scales linearly and painfully.

2. Per-contact billing: ManyChat

ManyChat bills by "active contacts" rather than dialogs. Worth knowing: its free Pro program for Ukraine ended on January 31, 2026, and the free tier now caps at just 25 active contacts (down from 1,000). Paid plans start at ~$14/mo (Essential), and Manychat AI is a separate +$29/mo add-on. A contact who sent one message this month costs the same as one who bought three times. ManyChat remains genuinely good at broadcasts and flow funnels — credit where due. But it does not create orders in a CRM, and there's no Nova Poshta or KeyCRM integration for Ukrainian sellers.

SendPulse belongs in the same bucket: it's a flow builder where the ChatGPT step requires your own OpenAI API key, the conversation follows a pre-drawn script rather than an autonomous sales agent, and it doesn't create CRM orders on its own. If you're unsure what separates a scripted bot from an agent, start with what an AI sales agent actually is.

3. Subscription + BYO key

BYO (bring your own key) means you plug in your own OpenAI or Gemini API key and pay the AI provider directly for tokens. At Mercon we add zero markup on AI and zero message caps on BYO plans: Growth BYO is $79/mo for the platform, and the AI itself costs whatever the tokens cost — fractions of a cent for an ~8-message dialog on current models. The full breakdown is in our piece on BYO-key AI pricing.

The math: a store doing 500 dialogs/mo

500 dialogs is a small but busy Instagram-and-Telegram shop — about 16 conversations a day.

  • Intercom Fin: 500 × $0.99 = $495/mo
  • Gorgias: 500 × $1.00 = $500/mo ($450 on annual)
  • Tidio Lyro: 10 bundles × $32.50 ≈ $325/mo
  • MyChatBot: 500 dialogs ≈ 4,000 replies → MultiPro $199 (3,000 replies) + ~$40 overage ≈ $239/mo
  • Mercon Starter: $49/mo (≈600-dialog allowance) ≈ $0.08 per dialog; or $29/mo BYO plus tokens at cost

The math: 2,500 dialogs/mo

2,500 dialogs means chat has become a primary sales channel — about 80 conversations a day.

  • Intercom Fin: 2,500 × $0.99 = $2,475/mo
  • Gorgias: $2,500/mo ($2,250 on annual)
  • Tidio Lyro:$1,625/mo
  • MyChatBot: ≈20,000 replies → $199 + 17 × $40 in overages ≈ $879/mo
  • Mercon Growth: $139/mo ≈ $0.06 per dialog; or $79/mo BYO plus tokens

At low volume the gap between platforms is tens of dollars and you can choose on features alone. At 2,500 dialogs it's the difference between $139 and $2,475 a month — the pricing model matters more than the brand.

What about a custom-built bot?

A custom Instagram bot from an agency starts at around ~$200 for setup (a typical agency anchor), plus ongoing maintenance. For a simple FAQ or one fixed funnel, that's a perfectly reasonable route. But it's a script: new products, new scenarios, new logic all mean paying the developer again. An AI agent with semantic catalog search doesn't need rewiring for every new SKU — it reads the live catalog.

What to check beyond price per dialog

  • Does the bot create the order in your CRM, or just answer questions? A bot that replies "a manager will get back to you in the morning" at 2 a.m. saves you nothing.
  • Which channels the plan includes. Almost every platform gates Instagram behind mid-tier plans — check before you subscribe.
  • Integrations that match your stack: payments, shipping, CRM sync. For Ukrainian sellers that means Nova Poshta, KeyCRM and Monobank/LiqPay out of the box.
  • Limit transparency. If a plan counts "messages", divide by 8 to see how many actual conversations you're buying.

At Mercon we deliberately price in dialogs, not messages: Starter $49/mo (≈600 dialogs) or $29 BYO, Growth $139 (≈2,500 dialogs, Instagram and Facebook included) or $79 BYO, Scale $399 (≈12,500) or $199 BYO. The agent carries the conversation all the way to a CRM order, sends the payment link and creates the shipment — so you're paying for dialogs that actually convert.

FAQ

How much does an AI chatbot for an Instagram store cost in 2026?

As of June 2026 the market charges $0.5–1.4 per AI dialog: Intercom Fin is $0.99 per resolution, Gorgias $0.90–1.00, Tidio Lyro from ~$0.65, MyChatBot ~$0.65. Mercon Growth ($139/mo, Instagram included) works out to ~$0.06 per dialog. Note that most platforms only unlock Instagram on mid-tier plans.

Is ManyChat cheaper than an AI sales agent?

For broadcasts and simple flow funnels, ManyChat is cheaper to start: from ~$14/mo plus a $29 AI add-on. But it bills per active contact, doesn't create CRM orders, and has no Nova Poshta or KeyCRM integration. If the goal is turning a Direct conversation into a placed order, compare AI agents on price per dialog instead.

What is a BYO key and what do tokens actually cost?

BYO means connecting your own OpenAI or Gemini API key and paying the provider directly — no platform markup, no message caps. An ~8-message dialog costs fractions of a cent on current models, so the fixed subscription becomes your main cost ($29–199/mo at Mercon depending on the plan).

Why does one dialog equal ~8 AI messages?

Because a real purchase is never a single reply: product search, photos, an objection handled, a delivery option picked, an order confirmed. Across Mercon traffic that averages ~8 AI messages per dialog — which is exactly why limits quoted "in messages" always look more generous than they are.
